Do you understand what the term affiliate marketing actually means. If you want to become an affiliate marketer it would be a good idea to learn as much as you can about the meaning of affiliate marketing and web affiliate marketer really is. In this article I will attempt to give you a definition for affiliate marketing that is easy to understand, plus some tips to help you get started as an affiliate marketer.
Basically Affiliate Marketing is a system for selling products for other people to learn a commission. The Affiliate is the person that is selling the product for the merchant.
If you would like to become an affiliate you need to sign up with an affiliate program. Their hundreds of affiliate programs available online, Click Bank, Amazon.Com, Link Share, and Commission Junction all have affiliate programs that you can sign up for. Some product developers even have affiliate programs of their own where they only sell products that they have developed.
When you sign up to sell a product you will see the commission rate posted with the product information. Digital products pay the highest commission because of lower overhead to produce and distribute them. They usually earn you a commission from 35% to 75%. Physical products on the other hand costs more for production, shipping, and handling. When you sell physical products you should expect to receive about 3% to 12% commission on your affiliate sales.
Most legitimate affiliate marketing programs are free to join, your biggest investment is going to be the time you invest into promoting the affiliate products. You can make a great income if you are willing to put in the time to learn how to promote links to the affiliate products that you have selected to sell.
Okay now, to get started you’ll need to sign up for an affiliate program and select products to promote. When you select your products you should receive an affiliate link. The affiliate link as a link that you promote what they code built into it to identify you as a seller. If you promote your products without your affiliate link the affiliate manager will not know who made the sale.
Now you need to start promoting the affiliate products with your special affiliate link. There are several ways that you can get your link in front of prospective buyers whether you have a website or not. I believe it is easier if you do have a website, because you can set it up to presell your affiliate product to his prospective buyers. If you don’t have a website you can use classified ads, article marketing, forum marketing, and social websites to start your promotional efforts.
There’s a lot to learn about affiliate marketing, and you need to take the time to learn as much as you can if you’re serious about earning your income from selling affiliate products. I have only touched the tip of the iceberg in this article, but I will be writing several articles in the series with tips and information about affiliate marketing.
