Back Links | How Backlinking Works
A back link is actually is a link from another web site to your site. We all know the back links to your web site are important if you want to rank high in the search engines. What most people don't understand is that the anchor text is a very important part of the link.
When most search engines see a link to your website they also look for the anchor text. You gain points with the search engines by getting back links from web sites that use the right keyword anchor texts for the content on your website.
It really doesn't do you much good for a website to link to you with a link that says click here or even has your domain name as the anchor text. You should already rank well for your domain name, but if they were to use a term like visit this “moneymaking blog”, as the anchor it could help you to improve your ranking with the search engines for the term, "moneymaking blog".
One of the best thing you can do to help you rank high for any of your projects is to get a domain name with your keywords in it. That way when people link back to you with your domain name you will still have the benefit of your keywords showing up. This works to everyone's benefit including you and the search engines. Even sites that link back to won't get it wrong, unless they add anchor text that is irrelevant.
Back Links are important to your web site or blog, so you need to learn more about how to gain more back links for the keywords that you are after.
