Know What Keyword Terms Your Buyers Use

Do you know the keywords that your customers would use to find your products online. You should know several keyword terms that your customers could use to search for your product offer. The keywords you try to get ranked for must be the keywords your buyers use to search for your products or you don’t stand a chance of making the sales that you hoped for.

Think about it, can your product be referred to in more than one way? If so I need to look at more than one search term and find out which ones get the most searches. Let’s say for instance that you are selling t-shirts. Will your customers only be using the keyword term t-shirts? The answer to that is no! They will search for t-shirts, tees, t shirts, shirts. cool tees, printed t-shirts or any other combination of words that describe your product.

To start out you need to find as many keywords as you can that are relevant to the product you are promoting. You can usually find a list of keywords by going to the free Google keyword tool and searching for a seed keyword. The Google keyword tool should give you a list of relevant keywords. Take the words that make the most sense to you then run them through the free Google keyword tool one at a time to expand your list even further. Using this technique you can build a large list of keywords to work with.

You could also ask people what terms they would use to search for your product. Ask a broad range of people including employees, customers, friends and family. Think about the way people describe your product in general conversations or on message boards. You’ll find that people from two different groups may come up with totally different ways of describing for the same product.

Once you have successfully collected a meaningful keyword list, you may need to remove any keywords that  are too targeted or to general. Take the keywords that you remove and save them as a secondary list of keywords to use in your articles and writing. You can use your secondary list of keywords to give your article in the natural sounding flow and keep you from overusing your main keywords.

Keyword placement is also important. Use your main keywords in your title and her first paragraphs of your writing. Sprinkle your best keywords throughout your article and use your secondary list to add more relevance to your topic.
